You might be wearing the best shoes, a clean uniform and have a winning attitude. But don’t forget about one of the most important pieces of sports equipment available today: the athletic mouthguard. Believe it or not, not just any mouthguard will do. However, if you’re fitted for the one that truly meets your needs, you can avoid potentially painful and costly injuries to your face and teeth. The right sports mouthguard can prevent injuries such as loosened, broken or dislodged teeth, lacerated or bitten tongue, objects getting caught between the teeth, and jaw fracture. According to the American Dental Association, an estimated two million teeth get knocked out each year due to sports-related injuries. An athlete who is not using a mouthguard is 60 times more likely to suffer harm to his or her teeth. Wearing a sports mouthguard is not as easy as simply going to a pharmacy or sporting goods store and buying one. In fact, it is recommended that athletes who play contact games such as […]

Dr. Galligan has a fond past in the scouts and is looking forward to his son joining a troop and continuing the family tradition. He wants to thank all the parents and troop volunteers for their assistance in making this year’s event another great hit. Congratulations Troop 500 participants for your accomplishments.
Neutralize Acid – Stay hydrated, stimulate saliva, reduce acid exposure/frequency Cavity prevention is the name of the game in our profession and any new tips, techniques, or motivators that come along, Galligan Family Dentistry is here to share them with you and your family. For years and years we’ve all known that brushing and flossing away plaque and reducing sugar intake are sound cavity prevention efforts. However, what doesn’t get a lot of press is acid’s role in the cavity formation process. Cavities are created when acid dissolves minerals away from our teeth and a hole or “cavity” is formed.
