ADA Give Kids A Smile Annual Charity Event

Give Kids a SmileEvery year, during February’s National Children’s Oral Health Month and through the American Dental Association, dentists around the country participate in the profession’s largest charity dental event by providing dental services to underserved and needy children. Galligan Family Dentistry prides itself on being one of the few private dental offices in the North Raleigh and Wake Forest area that participates in Give Kids A Smile. We have teamed up with the Wake Forest branch of the Boys and Girls Club to offer free educational, diagnostic, and preventative treatment for many of its club members during the February event. 2009 was our inaugural event with the Boys and Girls Club and was a great success. We plan to host this local event every year and anticipate it to be an even bigger and more successful with the coming years.

Boys and Girls Club

Galligan Family Dentistry has developed an ongoing partnership with the Wake Forest Boys and Girls Club by sponsoring and hosting various community events in the Wake Forest and North Raleigh area. In 2009, we hosted many of the club’s members for the ADA’s annual Give Kids A Smile charity event, sponsored Carolina Ale House’s annual charity golf event, and participated in the club’s annual Steak and Steak charity dinner. We have found that the Wake Forest Boys and Girls Club to be a fantastic organization and a perfect fit for continuing our practice’s philosophy on reducing dental disease through education and prevention for our future generation.

Children’s Dental Health Month

February is National Children’s Dental Health Month and at Galligan Family Dentistry, we strive to improve our community’s education on disease risk and disease prevention by sponsoring and hosting various programs. Each year during children’s dental health month, we visit several local preschools and deliver presentations on establishing good dental habits and fun information on what-to-expect at your first dental visit.

If you are a parent or preschool educator within North Raleigh, Wake Forest, Youngsville, or surrounding community, please contact our Raleigh dental office if you would like to inquire about our hosting one of our Children’s Dental Health Month preschool presentations.

We also host the Wake Forest Boys and Girls Club children and perform educational, diagnostic, and preventative dental treatment for many of its members during the ADA’s Give Kids A Smile annual charity event. Please see our web link for more information regarding this event or visit the ADA’s GKAS website at www.gkas.org.

Smile Train Triathlon

For the past several years, Wake Forest’s Heritage Community has hosted the Smile Train’s annual charity triathlon to help raise funds for children, worldwide, that are suffering from cleft lip and cleft palate. The Smile Train is a great organization that has done a phenomenal job streamlining its surgical practices and allocating its funds to allow so many children to be treated for these conditions. Galligan Family Dentistry is proud to be associated with organization by not only sponsoring Wake Forest’s event, but also by Dr. Galligan training and participating in the event. He actually finished the race in 2009 and didn’t come in last place! We plan to continue our association with this event and in 2010 will host a water tent for the athletes and Dr. Galligan will try to best his time from the 2009 race.

Please visit Smile Train’s website for more information about this charity organization at www.SmileTrain.org Or if you would like to participate in the triathlon, please enroll at their website at www.fsseries.com

Boy Scouts of America

Dr. Galligan comes from a family that was and is still greatly involved in the Scouts, with many family members being past and current members including his brother whom is a proud Eagle Scout and two nephews on their way to becoming Eagles. For the time, Dr. Galligan’s son is still too young to enjoy scouting but to stay involved in the spirit of Scouting, Dr. Galligan has become a merit badge counselor for North Raleigh, Wake Forest members of the Occoneechee Council to earn the Dentistry merit badge. Galligan Family Dentistry hopes to host an in-office event to help local Scouts gain many of the requirements for Dentistry’s merit badge and will have more information about our events as details develop.

If you are a Scout parent or Occoneechee council member, please contact our office to inquire about arranging an event for troops to participate in a merit badge event.

The Lodge at Wake Forest Health Fair

Galligan Family Dentistry strives to provide educational and preventative charity services to the North Raleigh, Wake Forest, Youngsville, and surrounding communities. We primarily focus these efforts on the area’s children since they require the most education due to their immaturity and youth. However, all generations benefit from health education so we teamed up with The Lodge at Wake Forest Retirement Community by participating in their 2009 annual health fair. We performed oral cancer screenings and cavity-preventing fluoride varnish treatments to many of the participating residents and found this to be a very rewarding and motivational event.

If you are a resident or staff member of a North Raleigh, Wake Forest, Youngsville, or surrounding community and wish to inquire about our practice participating in a similar event, please contact our office.

Wakefield Middle School Career Day

Since our opening in 2006, Galligan Family Dentistry has had a ongoing partnership with Wakefield Middle School’s career fair to help students investigate their career goals and paths. Each year, during March, Dr. Galligan presents business and clinical information about the ins and outs of not only being a dentist but a small business owner as well. Although it is difficult competing for student’s attention with the likes of bakers making bananas foster for the students, we try to make our presentation fun by allowing students to assist in facets of composite fillings and athletic mouthguard fabrication. We even make goopy impressions of their teacher’s teeth for a good laugh but provide free whitening trays for being a good sport. We hope to expand our career fair presentations in the coming years with Wakefield High School and other Wake Forest and Youngsville schools.

Wake Forest-Rolesville High School Football Team Mouthguards Donation

Being an avid fan of local football, Dr. Galligan has teamed up with the Wake Forest-Rolesville Cougars by providing custom pro-style mouthguards to the varsity team. During the fall of 2009, the staff at Galligan Family Dentistry volunteered their time to form and fabricate mouthguards for the team. Dr. Galligan is very proud to be a part of Coach Lucas’ and the entire teams overwhelming success during the 2009 football season. We hope to continue our support and involvement with the WF-R Cougars by keeping them free of dental and facial injuries.
